  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)

For the Topping (optional):

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese


Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the Macaroni:

    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
    • Add the macaroni and cook according to the package directions until al dente.
    • Drain and set aside.
  3. Make the Cheese Sauce:

    • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
    • Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux. It should be bubbling but not browned.
    • Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, ensuring there are no lumps.
    • Continue to cook and whisk until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble.
    • Reduce heat to low and add the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, stirring until melted and smooth.
    • Season with garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder (if using), salt, and pepper.


  4. Combine Pasta and Sauce:

    • Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated.
  5. Optional – Bake with Topping:

    • Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a greased baking dish.
    • In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and Parmesan cheese.
    • Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the macaroni and cheese.
  6. Bake:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
