Favorite Meatloaf. Recipe and cooking method
Here’s a classic and delicious meatloaf recipe that’s sure to please:
Classic Meatloaf Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ lbs ground beef (80/20 is ideal)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme or Italian seasoning
- ½ cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
Cooking Method:
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, thyme, and ½ cup of ketchup. Mix until just combined; be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatloaf tough.
Shape the Meatloaf: Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased loaf pan or shape it into a free-form loaf on a lined baking sheet. If you’re using a loaf pan, press the mixture in evenly.
Add Topping: Spread a thin layer of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf for added flavor and moisture.
Bake: Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
Rest and Serve: Once cooked, let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. This helps the juices redistribute.
Enjoy: Serve with your favorite sides, like mashed potatoes or steamed veggies!
Tips:
- Feel free to customize with your favorite herbs or add-ins, like grated cheese or chopped bell peppers.
- Leftover meatloaf makes great sandwiches the next day!
Enjoy your cooking!
